We are always looking for great tips and tricks to make caring for and feeding dogs easier and more effective. Following we have listed a few tips. They won’t break the bank when collecting some of the materials needed. You probably have some of the items mentioned within.
Tip 1: Do you need a spill proof bowl? Try swapping out his bowl for an old bundt pan or a glass or ceramic bowl that you do not use anymore. These items can also be found at a thrift store or garage sale. A beautiful ceramic bowl with colors to match your kitchen, look so great on your kitchen floor too. Who doesn’t love that. Get creative.
Tip 2: If your dog has digestive issues pay attention to his feeding times and adjust. If he regurgitates after a walk or before bedtime you may need to simply adjust his feeding time. Try feeding him one hour earlier than your normal time and see if that takes care of the problem. Possibly scaling back his portion may help as well. And of course, consult a vet if the issue persists but there are some simple things that you can do on your own to help your dog out.
Tip 3: Does your dog race through cleaning his bowl? No problem. We have a tip for slowing him down. This tip may also help out with the digestive issues mentioned in Tip 2. One of our favorite tricks is to use a lick mat or a silver ware drawer. The lick mat you probably already have and who doesn’t have an extra silverware tray in their attic or basement. You could even use a muffin tray. Simply arrange or scatter the food within any of the mentioned objects. This will slow down your dog and stimulate him mentally. It is a WIN WIN for all.
Tip 4: Keeping Fido’s tummy healthy requires another trick. Skip the pricey probiotics or expensive food containing such. The dog food loses it’s effectiveness and nutrients through the cooking process and before it reaches your dog’s bowl. Instead vets advise you to drizzle KEFIR (fermented milk) over your dog’s food daily. The fermented milks is easily digested and therefore easier on your dog’s stomach.
Tip 5: Raised feeders are all the rage. They have a dual purpose of providing protection for your pets neck while eliminating the need for him to bend his head down to eat. It also aids in keeping bowls from moving and sloshing around, therefore keeping your floor a little cleaner. And using Tip 1 above you can pick up a couple of beautiful matching ceramic bowls and an old wooden stool or antique foot stool / bench to set them on. Slap on some no slip discs on the bottom if necessary and you are all set.
